Bayou Whispers
Roo’s mouth was moving, but Fernández couldn’t hear any sounds from his friend.
The bed of the pickup smelled of death.
Ghouls scrambled toward Fernández. He redoubled his grip on the ax.
I’m ready.
Through the noise and the chaos, Fernández heard his buddy’s last gasp:
Aleph-Kaf!
Blood seeped from Roo’s mouth, nose, and ears. His head turned to one side.
Fernández watched him die.
Screaming with white-hot fury, Fernández stood, raised his axe high above his head. He swung at the undead with wild abandon, cutting down any creature trying to get at Roo’s body.
