The soft patter of rain and the low rumble of thunder answered me. The living room was dark, but the bedroom light was on. A warm yellow glow spilled from the doorway, casting a rectangle of light across the floor. I kept my guard up. The door was left open, after all. The guy in 603 had clearly seen someone at my door, so why would he open his? In the bedroom, a man was lying on his side on the bed. It looked like no one else was in the apartment. THE TUBES came out of the floor one by one, even though Xurden was no longer there. The cat-masked demon stood in the very center of the room. He stood out against the whiteness of the cell because he was wearing pure black. He examined the cylinders one by one as if he was looking for something. After reaching the end of the line, he found the cylinder he was aiming for at that moment. He tapped the cylinder lightly. A few seconds after, dark smoke rose from the cylinder and took the shape of a demon’s face with his eyes closed. “Why aren’t you saying anything?” he said to the apparition.

The voice came behind her. Marc jumped up. She did the same, aiming her gun at the intruder. The apartment was suddenly in chaos as the other two ran around for their weapons. Lanky, bony face, and in a tan suit, the intruder looked like an office manager, until his eyes turned wholly black. “Demon,” she muttered. “Not an ordinary demon.
