The Assassin
I begin smashing the rest of the debris out of my way until I get to the room where Cal was.
When I get there, I realize it doesn’t look like Cal. This dragon is smaller, duller in color like it’s never been outside. He, or she, was unable to escape during my shift and so everything collapsed on top of him or her.
“Okay, hold on. I’m going to get you out of here,” I say, but the dragon doesn’t move.
“Please don’t be dead, please don’t be dead,” I say to it as I begin to pull the large pieces of debris off of it. When I’m done, it still hasn’t moved, and I can’t tell if it’s even breathing.
