Mitch said, “and you were stuck.”
“Not stuck exactly,” Hopkins said casually. “I killed the good old mayor this morning, then hid his body. He won’t be found for a while. Now I work alone again,” he said, ignoring the shocked gasps of everyone in the room. “Except, of course, for Mitch here. And you just wouldn’t leave it alone, man.” He spoke with sincere baffled regret.
Mitch felt sick.
“You just couldn’t let it go. I couldn’t risk it. In another day you’d have figured it out by yourself and come for me.”
