Kavan stared at the snake's eyes, and Fyn knew they were sharing a silent conversation. With a stiff nod, Kavan's gaze flittered towards Fyn's direction, making the latter stiffen where he stood.

“Bigger, too.” I study them more closely. The coils are heavy, thicker than anything I’ve seen in a standard snare. They look like they could anchor a door. “So they’ll generate a lot of force. Enough to cut through reinforced bones like ours.” Kai arches an eyebrow. I catch myself. “Fine. A great deal of force. Happy?” He doesn’t answer, but his expression tells me he’s not dismissing it anymore. He studies the trap for another moment, then mutters, “Maybe not ours. I think if you’d been caught, you’d have walked it off.”

Anything to get us out of here but all I saw was nothing. Other than that black figure again but this time, he had a snipper aimed at Daphne before I could react he pulled the trigger.
