Her expression was full of worry as she said, "Adrian, I was so scared."
He gently patted her arm, his voice calm and soothing. "Go outside for a moment, sweetheart."
Marielle froze, a flicker of unfamiliar humiliation crossing her face. She shot me a sharp glare before turning on her heel and leaving the room.
Once she was gone, Adrian struggled to swing his legs over the side of the bed. I stepped back instinctively and asked, "What are you doing?"
"Marielle has always been headstrong, hasn't she?"
I didn't want to talk about his lover. "What does that have to do with me?"
