It was tranquil. Caitlin thought of where she might go next. She found herself thinking of the unopened scroll, of her father’s letter. Maybe now was the time to open it. Maybe something in there would lead her, show her the way. Maybe she was being punished for not following her mission to begin with. Maybe she had needed all this drama to force her back on track. Suddenly, there was the sound of a twig snapping. Caitlin spun. She was shocked to discover that there, following her, was a large man, about twice her size. He was overgrown, with missing teeth, and a half open mouth. He looked like a real brute, very mean. She could see trouble in his large, black eyes.

I yelled at the man standing near the fire. The one holding the heated rod rushed toward me and extended the rod. Heat seeped through the leather gloves as I grasped the metal, but it was bearable. Varo kept shaking his head while one of my men tied a cloth around his mouth to keep his cock inside and when his eyes fell on the bright reddish-yellow tip of the metal rod, he tried to shift back.

Military dogs barked as they trailed around the forest, led by the palace guards. It had been five hours, and almost everyone was tired. The deputy military general asked his general that it would be better if they let the dogs rest.
