At My Driver’s Command
My hands clutched the blouse at my chest, hair sticking to the sweat and tears, and for a long moment, I simply stared.
He wasn’t the driver I was used to. Not the familiar, reliable face I could have leaned on without thinking. This man… he was new. My mind raced, trying to reconcile the panic and exhaustion with the sudden flicker of something else, a strange, unbidden curiosity, a spark of… anticipation?
The door opened, and for a split second, all my brokenness, the grief, the exhaustion, the firestorm of emotions…faded into the background. Because the driver who stepped out was breathtaking.
