The sound of the door made me divert my eyes to it, and I watched a doctor with a smiling face walking in. "Young Luna is finally awake," he said as he began approaching me. "Good day, Luna," he greeted, and bowed, while I cautiously stared at him. "I'm Doctor Declan, and I'm here to check on you," he said when he reached my bed, but I didn't say anything and kept staring at him. "Could you please lie down, you're not supposed to sit now," he said calmly, and I slowly nodded my head, before lying down on the bed, but winced when I felt the same pain again.

LYRA The meeting place is not on any pack map, which is precisely why I chose it, a collapsed stretch of old mining tunnel three miles past the western boundary, close enough to reach on foot before moonrise and far enough from patrol routes that no one will stumble on what I am about to do here. I have told myself, walking out here alone in the fading light, that this is simply strategy, the kind of cold, necessary calculation that separates women who become Luna from women who spend their whole lives waiting to be chosen. I have told myself this so many times in the last week that I have almost stopped hearing how thin it sounds.

He slapped my ass hard. I moan in a mind link. Oh, you’re on, teasing me like that, he responded. I walked into the clinic to meet the staff. There was a doctor who looked ancient, and he could barely move—poor thing. Luna Adira, welcome back. We are happy to have you here, he said. Dr. Julon, how about a day off, and I will take over today. Goddess sent you back for a reason. Have fun, he said as he left. He was probably in his seventies.

Why would you show up at an official pack meeting where my Luna is when you were not invited? “Hiii” Landon waved at her. Everyone was staring at her, wondering why she was here and who she was. “Nick, the baby wants a massage!” Clara demanded and rubbed my shoulders affectionately. Out of all times, today?! I could feel Luna Chloe pinching her husband. Gosh. The news would spread. “Clara, you can leave. My beta would arrange that for you.” I tried to reason with Clara but she would not listen. “The baby wants you!!”

Harper’s POV “Woah there.” Ronan catches me as my body falls back. “I think you need to rest, Luna.” “I… is he breathing?” I try to turn my head to look at Lucas, but the tears and exhaustion blur my vision. I dig my fingers into Ronan’s arm, needing something to ground me, to keep me here. If Lucas isn’t healed, I need to keep going. “He’s breathing,” Ronan says softly while helping me sit up. “Look.”

As she spoke, she forcibly grabbed my hand and placed it into Luna's. A shudder ran through my body. Nausea rose in my throat. "Let go of me. Get out!" A doctor rushed into the room, pulled Luna away, and stepped in front of me. "Are you all right?" I shook my head. Claire Bennett was a world-renowned cardiac surgeon I had hired at great expense. She was also my partner in developing artificial hearts. Luna panicked. Like a dying stray dog clinging to its last breath, she struggled across the floor toward me.

I introduce myself although I know everyone in the South knows of the Westmoon Alpha. She raises her lace veil and I nearly swallow my tongue. Are my eyes deceiving me or is my ex-wife right in front of me? "Raina?" Jayda gasps beside me. The doctor looks baffled and her announcer beside us laughs. "This is Dr. Winter, the best doctor in all of the South. This is no 'Ray-whatever'" I feel like snapping the neck of the rude announcer who referred to my late Luna as whatever, but I keep my cool.

She turned the side of her neck to show me a mark and my eyes opened when I saw it was a bit similar to mine, but mine was shinier and more precise. Wait, did she say werewolves? Wolf? I touched the mark, causing me to shiver and she nodded at me with a serious but kind look. “You are the Luna. You are Alpha Enzo’s mate.” What? Norman bent his neck towards me and Corey did the same, with Davina and Andrè. I stared confused and lost, it is when a loud giggle was released from across the fields and everyone’s head raised that I realized it was from me.

I realize that the entire pack that has been here fighting is watching her, needing a leader to guide them. “Shadow Falls pack! This is your Luna speaking. We are under attack. Return to Shadow Falls. Protect the pack!” her voice rings out over the meadow. She sounds strong, confident and powerful, exactly what a Luna should sound like. Her body is still healing from her injuries, and she’s covered in blood, but she looks like the warrior Guardian that she is. Emlyn orders our pack medic to get Rich to our pack hospital. I know that he’ll be taken care of so I step up to Emlyn. “I’m going too.”

"I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, Scarlett." His shadow left the room as silently as the still night, his existence remaining unnoticed. It would have been so if it weren't for the fact that Leaxandra remains conscious all this time. With the unknown shadow already out of the place, the Luna's eyes snapped open while her heart couldn't have pounded more vigorously as though surviving from death itself. ******
