After a moment, Hope went into her own bedroom, closing the door behind her. Until she came out of her room, it never really registered that the oversized black t-shirt I wore featured Darth Vader. She now wore her own oversized t-shirt with Obi-wan, Yoda, and the droids from the third prequel. Her nipples still stuck out prominently. "We meet again, Obi-wan," I said in my best Darth Vader voice, staring at her chest.

Hope said, standing at the edge of the platform, "the 'Re-Birth' begins. The shroud will start to break. In a hundred years, the sun will touch the ground again. In a thousand, the oceans will be blue." "And what happens to you?" I asked. "I'm just a 'User Interface,'" Hope said, her form beginning to dissolve into green sparks. "Once the 'Subject 01' is seated, I'm no longer needed. I'll go back into the 'Dream-Stream.'" She reached out and touched my cheek. Her hand felt like a warm breeze. "Thank you for being such a good story, Elara." She vanished. I stood alone in the center of the world. The silence was gone, replaced by the roar of the Genesis engines, waiting for my command.

Even Morgana seems to be doing better - her skin is glowing, her eyes bright. I even hear her laughing once or twice when Talon cracks a silly joke or her little girl does something sweet.

"Try fighting someone your own age." The battle explodes. Raven's enforcers clash with Hope's rescue team. Shadow magic and physical combat intertwine. The warehouse becomes chaotic violence. Hope focuses on the captives—getting them out, getting them safe, completing the mission rather than fighting battles she's not trained for. They're almost to the exit when one of Raven's enforcers breaks through their line, charging directly at Hope with clear intent to kill. Hope freezes—no time to dodge, no weapon ready, no defense prepared.

Not weakness. Hope.

Nya told them. “We won’t get our hopes up,” Alsys’s mom promised. “But please, try. Won’t you?” Nya found herself nodding, even though she knew it would only provoke her father. “I will have a word with him. But… I’m sorry. I already know it will do nothing.” Alsys let go of her and looked up through her red eyes. “Thank you, Princess Nya.” Nya put a hand on her head and said a quick prayer to Zans that she would be looked over, that her passage would be quick and painless. How that was possible, she didn’t know. Being devoured by a dragon couldn’t be comfortable, she imagined.
