“I only ask,” she added quickly, “because I don’t know much about dragonkind. Last time it came without warning, and—” she paused, a breath catching, “—I’d like to understand you.”
He didn’t answer at first. Instead, his gaze dropped to the cracked stones between them. When he finally spoke, his voice was low. Measured.
“It should be another two weeks. That’s the usual cycle. Once every twenty-eight days. Sometimes thirty."
“But it’s not, is it?” she said, not accusing—just aware.
