Chapter Four Carter. Jace Carter.. The name rang in my head multiple times as I tried to hang onto a grip of reality. Everyone started to leave as the class ended, I could barely even move as I remained dazed under the news I’d just received. Jace Carter. The star player and the hero of Blake University, the one person responsible for my first week of college being a horrible mess. He was my partner. “Miss Blackwell??” Professor Link called out my name, “Are you okay?”

she said. “Thanks.” “You’re welcome.” Normally, he would have smirked by now. Said something sarcastic. Nothing. He looked tired. Worse than tired. Like he had already made a decision and hated himself for it. Lisa slowly closed her laptop. “What happened?” Jake didn’t answer immediately. He looked at her for a second too long. Then leaned back in his chair. Like he was preparing for impact. When he finally spoke, his voice was calm. “Marry me.”

Never would I have imagined that it was as big as the loss of his brother and to top it all, Alpha Lucas was his Uncle; and Jake his cousin. goddess how? Just how did I find myself in such a situation? Drake is my mate but is going out with my mom and he also happens to be related to my ex. What the hell? How did I get entangled in this bond As I kept scrolling, I learned that Jake had joined forces with Drake again and was now the new Alpha. My head was spinning, trying to process this new information. How could this have happened? I felt lost and confused like everything I knew had been a lie.

I wondered why he never dated. “Dude, you remember how Jake used to be. He is totally smitten now.” I glanced at Dan laughing at Jake. “You just need to meet the right person and everything will fall into place,” Jake said, looking at me lovingly and I blushed. “Whipped.” Dan coughed earning a glare from Jake and everyone laughed. After hanging out for a while, they all left and I started cleaning up. “What was that?” Jake asked as I was cleaning. “What?”

I whispered, letting out a sigh of relief. We stayed hidden for the rest of Jake and Drake’s ‘date’, occasionally sneaking glances and more pictures. After about an hour, Jake finally stood up to leave. We watched as he gave Drake another hug, this one lasting even longer than the first. As soon as Jake was out the door, Drake made his way over to our table, a triumphant grin on his face. “Well,” he said, sliding into the seat next to me and ripping off his wig, “I guess I still got it.”

“Same here,I was surprised to see you at this part of the city ,alone,I thought your father can't allow it” He said while licking his pink lips,was he drooling?. “Actually am not alone ,drew is here,told him to take a ride while I do my shopping” I said nonchalantly. “ohh” “Yeah” It had been like two years since I last saw Jake,and to say the truth I kind of missed him. “What about you ,what are you doing here?” I asked him. “I just came to bring Chris,he said he needed something here ” Jake shrugged,just then someone shouted from afar.

“I’m still me. I’m still working.” Drew’s eyes narrowed slightly, like he didn’t love being interrupted. Then, surprisingly, he nodded. “Good,” he said. “Because if this becomes a story, it ends. Immediately.” “I don’t want a story,” I said. Jace’s gaze lifted from his folder, landing on Drew. “Neither do I.” There was a beat of silence where Drew looked at Jace, really looked, like he was trying to read what Jace wouldn’t say out loud.

I uttered, taking my napkin and drying his crotch. He sucked in a breath when I grabbed hold of his length slowly. He clutched the napkin from me and stood up. “I’ll go change.” I mentally applauded myself. He started it. When Jake came back down, he changed his clothes to blue Levi’s and a plain black v-neck shirt, freshly showered. I bet it was a cold one. We gathered around the living room; the guys were drinking beer except for Jack while we girls were drinking wine. The boys were watching football while we’re chatting about Cole. We showed Esther the video of them dancing to ‘single ladies’ and she can’t stop giggling with us.

“He just came home covered in soot and ash and reeking of smoke. It wasn’t hard to put two and two together.” “So what now? When do I get to rip his fucking head off?” “Not if I get my hands on him first,” Kade argued. Xander looked at both of us. “Well, that’s where we have a problem. Drew’s gone.” “Gone where, Xander? How could they just let him leave?” “From what Colton’s saying, he was discussing his suspicions with the Alpha, and Drew snuck out the back. Now he’s in the wind, and we’re on the hunt.”

“Want to keep him now?” She blushed. “Hush!” Jake pretended not to notice the exchange but it gave him some insight into what was going on between Sue and her brothers. He recalled the abbreviation her brothers had used that morning. OKJ. K must be for Keep. Obviously, whatever the whole thing stood for was embarrassing to her. “Done!” Trevor announced. Jake looked at his empty plate. “I’m impressed. You have earned my respect, Trevor.” “Respect is overrated,” Jeremiah huffed as he stood up to get himself a glass of water.
