Nathan murmured into his glass. "The point is," Dante continued, glaring at Nathan, "this is your chance, gentlemen. The Duchess will be here, in my home, surrounded by all the wealth and power she is used to. One of you might get lucky." He paused, his gaze settling on Rick. "Even you, Cameron. Though you might want to scrub the motor oil from under your fingernails first." Rick's jaw tightened, but he said nothing, just raised his glass in mock salute. "I still can't believe you've never even met her," Gabriel said to Rick. "You lived in New York your whole life right before joining the Army."

“I happen to have just had two new ones made and I thought this blue would compliment her eyes. I loved the colour, but it does not suit me well. We will just have some maids fit it to her before her ride. It won’t take long.” “What is a devantiere?” “Well,” the Duchess said, blushing slightly, “it is a French invention. A most useful but slightly scandalous dress. I’m sure if the Duke knew what they were about I would not be permitted to own one, but they are most practical. You see?” She held the top of the dress to her chest and lifted one side of the skirt out showing a long slit right up the back of it. “Oh my!”

I ordered as I entered a carriage with Dolphus and the five soldiers shared the remaining two carriages. The road to Crest Moon was a busy one because Dolphus was in the same carriage as I am and if anyone knows him, they will know that he can't keep his mouth shut. So, I brought out a chess game and decided to go some rounds with him, even when I knew that he wouldn't be able to win a single one. Dolphus isn’t a big fan of duels or chess because he always loses to me. After 2 hours of repeated failures on Dolphus' part, I decided to pity him.

The place was a far cry from the mundane interior of the trenches. The floor here was tiled with marble for Goddess knew why. The left side opened to a huge gym partitioned from the rest of the floor by glass walls, its interior was Moroccan-themed with vibrant red and yellow. Every treadmill and bike was occupied, two of whom were running had almost lost their momentum at the sight of the duke, almost slipping off the machines. At the far end, even though there were about twenty chameleons at the dumbbell rack that stretched across the wall, the area was spacious enough that it didn’t look overcrowded.
