Unaware of the fire their mother had walked through to keep their world intact. She checked her phone. Still nothing from him. No apology. No last-minute plea. Just silence—cowardly and expected. But there was a message. Not from him. From Sarah. “He told everyone you’re just having a breakdown. That it’s the stress and the devil getting to you. I’m praying for you, Eden. Please come to Sunday service. Let God heal this.”

I wore this shirt on purpose, see you in the morning. I didn’t know what to say, I had to read the message again just to make sure I read it right. I asked, trying to break the silence. Eden shook his head, his piercing blue eyes crinkling at the corners. "Yeah, not hungry. I have actually had lunch before coming to school." I stared at the food in front of me, my long, curly brown hair falling around my face like a curtain. "Oh, okay," I said, my voice hesitant. Eden's eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze piercing. "You don't like it?" he asked, his smooth voice low and even. I quickly looked up at him, my bright blue eyes meeting his. "No, I like it. I...I am actually just praying. You know, to God before eating," I said, forcing a smile onto my face.

How would they feel if it comes to light that this is Evander’s baby. How would the Elder feel knowing his blessing was wasted on a baby that wasn’t the future of this pack. Sensing my anxiety, Godric squeezed my hand. Bringing my attention back to the Elder, whose hand was forcing the blood to penetrate the dress and linger on my skin. “…..bless the body and mind carrying our future. May she remain strong. May she create the strong. Carry her soul as she carries the child….” The blessing took all of ten minutes. The Elder blessed me in every way possible known to the pack. I swore the man's mood changes faster then Shori changes his girlfriends. Both of our familes sat around us, while we sat beside the priest in front of the holy fire and he chanted mantras to bind our holy sacramental union for the rest of our lives. I didn't know when the time passed, as all the things blurred around me in front of fire, though I had taken my pills early so that my pyrphobia wouldn't attack me, but it still for a moment all I could see my 13 year old watching her mother die in the fire.
