Taken aback by the sudden gathering, she hesitated for a moment. Then, seeming startled, she stood there somewhat flustered. "Winry, you're out?!" Frank exclaimed in delight, rushing over and grabbing the girl's hand. He introduced her to Diana, "Heh, big sis! Let me introduce you to my girlfriend, Winry White." Then turning to Winry, he said, "This is the big sis I've mentioned to you, Diana Thompson, also my bro's fiancée!" The girl raised her head, caught sight of Diana, and appeared momentarily stunned.

As we reached the porch, the details of the shadow became terrifyingly clear. It was Edward. He was curled on his side on the cold concrete doorstep, his clothes torn and covered in dirt. His face was pale, bruised, and smeared with grease. He looked like he had been dragged through hell and back. "Edward! Oh my god, Edward, talk to me!" Wendy dropped to her knees, her hands flying over his face, his shoulders, weeping hysterically. "Please, wake up! Edward!" I knelt down beside her, my hands shaking so violently I could barely function. I pressed two fingers to the side of his neck.

I was confused for a split second and then remembered that I was at the starlight barrier and I had lost her. "What the fuck do you want, Edward? I was sleeping, you bloated ball sack! " I snapped. Edward was my best friend, not that I would ever admit that. Standing at 7 feet, with a tanned muscular body, Edward was not someone you wanted to mess with. His curly brown hair and grey eyes signalled him as a hybrid as well. Not that it affected his killing abilities; his kill score was almost as good as my own. He had gotten me out of the Chaos prison, Kyronus, along with my other friends, Harper and Lux. It was no exaggeration to say the Chaos army was dramatically weakened by our departure.

His jaw clenched. “I was protecting you.” The same lie. Dressed in different guilt. Ethan shifted in my arms. Edward’s eyes dropped to him. And the storm trembled again. “That child,” Edward whispered. I felt the energy change instantly. Not confusion. Not uncertainty. Recognition. Ethan looked back at him curiously. Then frowned. “Sad wolf,” he said quietly. Every warrior in the courtyard stiffened. Edward’s expression cracked. Silver energy flared faintly around his fingers.
