I watched from the shadows as she spoke softly to the dead girl, almost like a whisper I can't seem to hear, with her voice barely carrying in the cold autumn air.
I watched unseen as Serene traced the letters carved into the headstone, her eyes narrowing. A cold wind stirred, carrying the whispers of girls long gone. Dark memories lingered here, secrets buried with the dead.
Yet, above all, there was something unnatural about Serene's stillness, and her whispered words to the grave. I backed away slowly, silently, wanting to put as much distance as possible between myself and that dark, sinister scene.
But, her voice cut through the silence of my escape, "I know you're in there..."
