Chemical formulas. Frequencies.

He was finishing a new concept for a custom order, drawing sharp, symmetrical lines softened by graceful curves that revealed the hand of a true artist. Across from him, Evan sat on a small chair with his short legs swinging freely above the floor. In front of him lay a sheet of white paper and a handful of colored pencils. Liam had prepared a tiny table for him so the boy could stay occupied without interrupting his work. “I can do it too!” Evan proudly held up an abstract drawing he insisted was a table. “That’s good,” Liam answered absentmindedly while remaining focused on his own sketch. “Now draw the chairs too.”

He climbed onto the sofa beside her and opened the notebook. Crayon lines filled the page. Bright colors. Simple shapes. But the drawing was recognizable. Three stick figures stood side by side beneath a large sun. Evelyn had seen similar drawings from him before. Usually the same three figures. A woman. A child. And a tall man with darker shading around the eyes. Silas held the notebook proudly. “Do you like it?” Evelyn forced a soft smile. “It’s beautiful.” He studied the picture carefully. Then pointed to the tallest figure.

Chapter 03 Evelyn's POV. The question hung in the air like a blade suspended above my throat. If Ethan walked upstairs and brought that drawing down, it wouldn't just be a sketch of a lake and a boat that Miguel would be holding in his hands. It would be us. My drawings had never been simple lines and shading. They told stories, captured faces in a right way that left no room for misinterpretation, and if Miguel stared at that page, he would see exactly what I had spent ten years trying to hide.

Evan picked out an obvious question. "We have to go shopping baby. And then movie okay? So tell me how much work you got"? Daniel took him in his lap on the seat while checking his books. And he was amazed looking at the sketches he made. "Wow Baby. What is it"? He asked looking at a random lines art. "It’s a house". Evan replied drinking the juice that Daniel had bought earlier. "Wow. It’s so beautiful. And what is it? A sparrow"? Daniel pointed to another page. Evan looked at him with sparkling eyes. Nodding his head fast. He was happy his Dad knew what he drew.

I murmur trying to keep my voice calm. Lily beams up at me. "That's great! Wanna draw with us?" She hops around me a pair of russet-colored ears appearing on top of her head. I also see a fluffy tail wagging behind her. "We're making some for Mama and Papa!" Davin nods shyly. "T-they're busy with the bad wolves so... I think it will be nice for them." He says and looks down at his drawing. "S-so... why not join us?" He looks back up at me with wide purple eyes.
