We soon reached the point where I saw feral wolves, in no way inferior to those creatures that we fought against in my home magical world. A flock of huge beasts with distraught eyes. Even being a wolf, I would be like a fly to them. And there are five of them. Throughout the glade there was a fetid smell of the decomposed remains of the people they had eaten and other living creatures. Catching our scent, they pounced on us.

Henry*** Dean’s voice sliced through the night, dripping with scorn. "The omega wants to play Alpha," he drawled, his smirk sharp enough to cut. The crowd of wolves parted around us, forming a wide circle. Their movements were almost synchronized, as if compelled by an unspoken force. Shadows flickered under the dim moonlight, their eyes glowing with a mixture of curiosity and dread. Whispers rippled through the ranks, barely audible over the low growls of those in wolf form. The tension was palpable, an electric charge in the air that seemed to grow with every breath.

She smiles as she sits down on the chair swing. “What the f**k is an Elemental Wolf?” I look around for a tap before Quintin appears with a glass of water holding it out for me. I rush over to him and take it, downing it before asking for another. “An Elemental Wolf is a rare wolf. There are only five of us in existence. Surely you’ve had a dream by now?” Quintin asks and he hands me another full glass. I just tip it over my head feeling the water instantly cool me down.

Curiosity bubbled in my stomach, palms sweaty, and I could feel my heart thudding in my chest. Silence stretched between us, and the hair on the back of my neck stood up in anticipation. The Alpha sank his teeth on his bottom lip, shakily nodding before meeting my eyes, “I did. At first, he was shocked, but he told me that there’s a rare breed of wolves who used to do what you did easily—their eyes colour changed depending on their mood, had a unique kind of power and listen to this…they were all omegas. I pressed my hand to my chest, where the bond web hummed. The omega calm had saved me in the cave, in the pit, on the Conclave platform. It was the one weapon no one else could replicate. And the Frostmarch had bred wolves specifically to counter it. "How long do we have?" I asked. Corvus shrugged. "Months. Maybe weeks. They don't announce themselves. They just arrive. One day the border is quiet. The next day it's on fire."

Her voice was urgent, almost panicked, and it sent a cold wave of fear crashing through Elara's chest. "What's happening?" Elara asked, her voice trembling as she grabbed Mira's arm. "What's going on out there?" Mira hesitated, biting her lip, and then she sighed, her shoulders sagging with the weight of whatever news she was carrying. "There are wolves from another pack at the border," she said quietly. "Blackfang Pack. They're asking questions, looking for someone. A pregnant omega who ran from their territory a few months ago."

She understood the self-sufficient philosophy of her old pack, but this wasn't making sense. "Alright, so little shifter lesson for you. We are all governed by a council. The council is all retired Alphas. They look about eighty but most of them are more like two hundred. They live together in Northern Wisconsin. They make the rules, handle major disputes, approve new packs, they're pretty much our presidents. The only criteria to be on the council is having served as an alpha and being one of the five oldest wolves. So when one of them dies they know who's coming on board next."

I remembered that night—the sky bathed in deep crimson, the eerie stillness that had settled over the pack. Elias stirred against my chest, letting out a tiny sigh. Lena remained peaceful, but there was something about her now, an energy humming just beneath the surface. Orion let out a low curse. “Then we might have a serious problem.” I turned to him sharply. “Why?” He exhaled. “Because wolves born under an Eclipse aren’t just rare. They’re… unnatural.” Zara shot him a glare. “Seriously? That’s what you’re going with? Unnatural?”
