His eyes, though, sparkled like he’s already creating a fictional story on his head.
“Now, I believe she’s someone important to our world. Dig around. I need to know who these people are before they bury us all.”
The handler leaned back on the couch, rubbing his chin as though he were seriously debating it, though the twitch of his lips betrayed him. Finally, he gave a slow nod.
“Alright, I’ll do it. In return, take something off my plate, will you?” He slid an envelope on the table.
I checked the baby’s condition first before doing anything. She was still sleeping, with her small chest rising and falling against the crib. Satisfied, I pulled the envelope closer and flipped it open.
