Elion stared at him. The water in the shower dripped. Drip. Drip. Drip. A countdown.
"You die," Elion realized. "If you use them all... you die."
"I end," Cale corrected. "Death is biological. This is... existential."
"Why?" Elion demanded, grabbing Cale’s wet shoulders. "Why would you do that? Why would you burn yourself out for me?"
"Because," Cale said, looking up, water spiking his dark lashes, "a world without you isn't worth observing."
