Letting Him Go
The world outside blurred as memories pushed in, uninvited and sharp.
I’d been so excited last night. I’d finally managed to track down the limited-edition sports car Lucas wanted. The one he said would be his dream car. There were only 3 in the entire world. I’d imagined surprising him, imagined his smile, imagined a perfect moment before our perfect day.
But when I reached the hallway outside his hotel suite, I stopped. The door was left open and Lucas was talking.
He was Laughing.
"I’m not ready to marry Ella yet,” Lucas said. “I want to have some fun, and Ella isn’t any fun.”
