I tried to mask my emotions by taking a sip of water.
"You're lying. Your eyes are telling me so," Mason stated matter-of-factly, "I know you long enough to know this isn't true."
My heart raced a little. I felt moved by his trust, but I really couldn't possibly say anything else.
"It really was me." I tried my best to calm down, worried he’d discern the truth from my face. "Thank you for your faith in my character, though, I guess."
"Your eyes don't lie, Rina. It wasn't you, I just know it. Tell me why you're saying all this. Please, you're dooming yourself," Mason urged.
