I read out and grinned, knowing immediately who this message was from. I found myself saving his contact with troublemaker, wondering how he got a hold of my number, but then shrugged.

I say, breaking the silence in the car. “Yeah?” Lance answers, but Atlas doesn’t move. He just stares ahead as we drive back to the apartment. “What could possibly go wrong if we go see the hockey game tonight?” I ask, glancing at my phone. “We are not here to have fun, Silver,” Lance replies, polite but firm. “I know,” I sigh. “I just want us to go to the arena the Elder Alpha played in before.” Atlas finally shifts. “This is a good opportunity to see what he did while he was in the human world.”

I paced back and forth across the small dorm room, running my hands through my hair. “What if they meet me in person and change their mind?” I asked. “What if the locker room stuff becomes a real problem once they see me? What if...” “Ace.” Max stood up from the bed and caught my hands, stopping me. He looked calm and sure. “They already know the whole story. They reached out after the proposal, after the videos, after everything blew up online. They want you. The real you.” I pulled him into a tight hug and held on. “I don’t want to mess this up for us. Hockey has been my whole life for so long. I just… I don’t want to let you down.”

“We found her this time. For real.” My heart pounded so hard it hurt. I didn’t want to believe it, not again. We’d been through this before. Every time, it was a dead end. Every time, I got my hopes up just to have them crushed. But this time… something in his eyes told me it was different. “Where?” I asked quietly. He grinned. “At the enterprise. She’s working there. Cleaning staff, under a fake name. But it’s her, Alpha. I’d bet my life on it.”
