I think about this as I photograph her, the soft curve of her belly against the dark backdrop, the way her hands cradle the life inside her, the joy and fear warring in her expression. It's no new knowledge that every family is different. Just as every love story takes its own shape, the ones on my wall aren't templates to be copied; they're evidence that love exists in infinite forms. Some have two parents, some one, some three. Some are broken and glued back together; some are seamless. My family is one of those forms. It's not hidden, and not displayed with defiant pride or a political statement. It's just present. I closed my eyes, letting the last shred of my attachment to family die. "Think whatever you want. But Mom, even if you kill yourself right now, I'm still telling everyone the truth about that matcha."

I asked the family to tell me something about their loved one and they looked at each other before the young woman told me a very funny story of how her mate swooped her off her feet the day they found out they were mates. “You are very blessed to have had that time with him.” I couldn’t help but think about my own relationship and how horribly everything just went completely wrong right from the start. I wished them well and asked Lesley to get their details. I wanted to make sure they were taken care of. Lesley and I moved from one family to the next and with each of them telling me a story, my heart grew heavier, but I tried to be a comfort to all of them.

"Speaking of, we have not discuss about you and your family. I think this is the perfect time to discuss about that!" Nick took a deep sigh. "Well, my family story is very common so I don't think it's worth sharing!" "What? Of course, everything is going to be exciting because I am about to find out your life story!" "Stella, I hope we are not going to talk about my family. I am not in the mood to talk about it now so please, let us discuss it some other time!" In spite of what Nick said, I still insist on telling him the story about his family. "But I would really appreciate it if you tell me even a summarize story of your family!" I pleaded with him through my eyes.
