If I find out you did, don't blame me for cutting you off when I get the inheritance." Jake laughed, trying to please. "Heard your best friend's worth over ten mil? What'd her dead parents do to stack that much?" Felicity laughed. "They ran a company. Died young, left her loaded. She can't touch a dime till twenty-five. She's just working there now, 'training.' Pretty big deal—might hit a few hundred mil soon."

I suggest you stay away from him because he will only make you cry like the other girls he’d been with." Daphne wiped her mouth and glanced at Nathan for a second before going back to Chuck. "Oh, is that so?" She rubbed his arms and replied, "Don’t worry, dear, I’m not dating your uncle, so you don’t have to worry if I’ll cry."

Honestly, I couldn't understand why Chuck had believed something that superstitious so easily when he was supposed to be a man of science. Perhaps the more one learned of something, the more one feared it. Chuck released Valerie and came to me. She trembled violently on the couch. Chuck said, "Lend me your phone, Steph."

After a pause, he finally asked, "You... got married?" I took a sip of water. "No. IVF." Rich, pregnant, no husband—it's a solid life. I added, "What? You're not with Ella?" Chuck shook his head. "I... didn't love her. I only looked after her out of pity. Don't get it twisted. After we broke up, it was over." He kept going, but I shut him down. "Save it. I don't care. Half that money was yours. If you really need help, I'll lend you some. Basic human decency. I'm not as vicious as you claimed."

I yell and he burst into laughter " What's so funny idiot?" Everything suddenly became tasteless to Chuck. That night, he hugged me from behind while trying to probe the reason for my sudden change. "Honey, why did you suddenly talk about wanting kids today? Didn't we agree that we'd be DINKs?" I turned to look him in the eye. "I thought you weren't serious about it because you like kids. After all, which man wouldn't want a child of his own?" Chuck froze. "It's… It's not that I don't want one, but I think kids are troublesome."

"Don't flatter yourself. I am Emma's boyfriend. And if I'm not mistaken, aren't you engaged to her foster sister? Tell me, when did shamelessness become a virtue?" Jay caught the bite of sarcasm in Chuck's words. Rage flushed his face red.
