Do I get to choose a different one?” “No,” I replied shaking my head. “We don't get to chose our fates, just how we accept them. Fate is that the sun is going to set and we will be in the dark. There is nothing we can do to stop it. It is what is destined to happen. But we have free will, so even though the sun sets and there is darkness, we can chose to gather and light candles.”

His arm absently moves up to pull me in closer to his side and my senses are assaulted with his fire and brimstone scent. “Are we interrupting something important?” Power surges through the air as the Fates suddenly appear in the middle of the drawing room, an amused look echoing along all of their faces. Clotho steps away from her sisters and makes her way over to the empty seat to my right. Her hands reach out to grab mine in hers, pulling me out of Levi’s hold until I am facing her fully. The empty sockets where her eyes should be start to glow a pale white light as her breathing starts to slow to an almost indescernible rate.

I had all my memories in this place, and I still remembered when I woke up the next morning after my night at the bar—I couldn’t remember anything. What was happening? Didn’t I die? I thought to myself. “You did die,” he replied to me, even without me saying it. “But death is a doorway. And I am Fate. I control who goes in.” I clenched my fists, trying to anchor myself. I wanted to punch him in the face. “What the hell are you talking about? Cut the crap.” His smile never left his face. “It means you are... unique. Not just you—both of you.”

“No. God, please, no—” A light chuckle echoed behind her. “Relax, sunshine.” Aurora whipped around. Fate stood there, barefoot in the grass, her little sundress fluttering like she weighed no more than air. Her curls bounced as she tilted her head, smiling with a gentleness that somehow made everything feel even more unreal. “You’re not dead.” Fate said with an amused shrug.

He made a move for my hand. Something inside of me stirred as our fingers connected. An emotion. One of the memories. Every life we have already led. The previous cycles. Our lost love. The fights we had engaged in. All of them remained within us. Energy surged through my veins, and I gasped. Damon's hold became more firm. He sensed it, too. Aetherion called forth golden light with his raised palm. "Fate is unavoidable." Damon took a step forward. "Observe us."

Light Fades Scene opens up with camera view rolling across the temple of the Fates. Across the open roof, catching glimpse of the starless red unknown cycle of the day. Across the thrones, each fate heavily still, endowed in their materialistic beauty, their gown still reaching for the floors and their garment, more details were caught.

“Fate cannot be outrun, Lorcan Dalgaard. All will be as fated.” “One more thing,” Selene interrupts. “What?” I breathe softly. “You are strong and mighty, Lorcan Dalgaard. All that happened throughout your life led you here. It was Fate and my design that would have you standing before us. There is a reason for everything and a time for all. Your time is now. Walk towards the light, Lorcan, with an open heart.” Selene’s voice fades away, both she and Fate disappearing from my view. The light is still bright, but it doesn’t seem to be blinding me anymore. I follow the light, but I never seem to be getting anywhere.

You’d think more people would be hesitant to find their fated mates, considering what happened to the previous generation, but I guess the possibility of eternal love and happiness clouds peoples’ rationality. The last two months, Vinny’s pack, The Forza Nelle Tenebre, aka Forza Pack, and Dare’s pack, The Running River Pack, have taken turns hosting full moon runs. A bunch of my pack members have traveled to these events and about fifty of them found their fated mates within the other packs. Small fuckin’ world, right?
