I stepped forward.
“I didn’t ask to be anyone’s Alpha,” I said, voice flat.
“No,” the younger Elder replied, “but neither did most Alphas. The moon chooses.”
Kade let out a slow breath, then moved to stand between me and the Council.
“She’s not here to take power,” he said. “She’s here to survive.”
The Elder raised a brow. “And yet survival isn’t her only strength.”
I wanted to scream.
