I groaned, making my mother and her father gasp. My father growled, standing up with anger, the corner of my lip tilting in satisfaction. "Sir, please w-wait," Blackwood sputtered. "We are done here, Blackwood. The future Mafia princess needs to have her honor intact. I will be collecting my goods back and my alliance from your company. You have just wasted my son's time." Father boomed, his rage shaking the room.

He moved with effortless confidence, like someone who'd never questioned his right to own everything he surveyed. Maya actually gasped and grabbed my arm. "Holy shit," she breathed. “No.” His eyes darkened. “Out of respect, I did nothing. I let him keep his throne, but that's where I fucked up," he paused, "he sent men after me, but when they came, they found your mother, and killed her." Stephanie staggered back, the wall catching her weight. “I lost control,” Blackwood admitted, his voice trembled with something that almost sounded like grief. “That was when I took out Jace’s father and his mother. I didn’t want to, but he left me no choice.”

But we shared the same father and now we shared the same loss. "He suffered," Aston said as he led me inside. "Whoever killed him made sure of that." "Who was it?" "A wolf named Adnar Blackwood. He runs territory in the western region. Father encroached on his land and Blackwood retaliated." We sat in father's study and Aston told me everything. "He made an example," Aston said. His desk was covered with papers he would never finish reading. His chair sat empty and would stay empty forever.
