I like the wand.”“Good puppy.” His hand went to my cheek and rubbed it. “You see? It wasn’t that hard.”I nodded.“Now open your mouth.”

"Oh, everything! The children going to Narnia and the battles and Edmund being bad but then being sorry and being good. But I liked Lucy best. She's not pretty but she's so brave." He listens to the stream of enthusiastic chatter.... "In that case, try this one next. It is about the same children returning to Narnia.... 'The Silver Chair'.…" She all but snatches the book from his hand. "So, you enjoy the tales of magic and fantasy? What other books of that sort have you read?" "The ones by Scheherazade...." "Ah yes, the 'Teller of the Tales', 'The Thousand and One Nights." It does indeed contain some excellent stories. But not all, um.… suitable for young ladies. I suspect you have read a ve

Cyrus was right, if I had goals. “Can you use magic to help?” Jane offered. “I can imagine a good grade.” Suddenly, the daunting task seemed attainable. “Esmerelda!” Cyrus and Ghost exclaimed. “What does the pack do for Christmas?” I winked at Jane. She understood my tactic. “Christmas?” “Isn’t it next week?” “I suppose it is.” “Can I invite Uncle Harris?” “Maybe we can celebrate at the bar.” Cyrus deflected. “I need to look forward to something joyous.”

There would soon be presents and cookies. There was every reason to be happy and content. But, all she could think about was Nathan. So, she sat on the floor in front of the fire and drank rum. "That's what Christmas is all about, isn't it? The spirit of giving." Kiki nodded as she watched Santa pass out the gifts to the children, one by one. "It sure is." Children squealed with delight as they opened their gifts. At that moment, Kiki didn't want to be anywhere else. When the last gift had been passed out, Santa gathered the children around and read A Visit from St. Nicholas, better known as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. Laura chided trying to hold back her laughter to save her friend’s face. The rest of the evening was fun with the women around. Petra, left some minutes after Maria had re-emerged to return home, leaving the rest of them in the house. The women had their dinner together and even succumbed to Laura’s wish to play Dirty Santa with Maria and Aria placed in charge of wrapping the gifts for the game. Afterward, all five women settled in front of the TV with blankets and popcorn buckets in hand to watch Jean Shepherd’s ‘A Christmas Story’. Christine looked up, admiringly at her husband who was reading the story. As usual he switches voices to suit the character. After finishing the story the children went to kiss both Christine and Marty.

Then she laughed, a throaty and endearing sound that made me smile. “Merry Christmas Brad and thank you for the most perfect gift ever.” I kissed her slow, tasting salt and sex and her and I knew deep in my heart that whatever it is this is, we were just starting.

"Thanks also for my gift—I'll think about you whenever I color 'Neverland.'" When she was gone, I picked up my present on the glass table beside our now-empty hot chocolate mugs. I tore off the shrink wrap, so I could see the actual uncolored pages.
