Anna's Decision
She denied this version, and the man claimed that he had to convince Harlan to continue with this relationship.
'And what did the girl say?' I insisted.
'She said they were just friends. Although, to tell you the truth, I didn't see much conviction in her face.'
'Well, never mind that,' Harlan cut him off. 'Anna and I are together, aren't we?'
'Yes.'
I said it sheepishly, the father excused himself and went off to do the bookkeeping. I took Harlan by the arm and we walked to his car.
I was intoxicated by the smell of his perfume, the breadth of his shoulders and his smile. He put on some rock music that he hummed very badly, which made me laugh.
