“I’ll be here,” Fiona shot back through gritted teeth.
“Good girl,” Xira said dismissively, then shooed her away with a snap of her fingers as though she was waving off a pup.
I sighed. “You shouldn’t have provoked her like that,” I said quietly as Fiona’s scent faded.
“It wasn’t personal, I was just messing around with her, wanting to see…you know, if she is fit,” Xira replied.
I didn’t give a reply to that because there was nothing to say other than the fact that personal is undoubtedly what it was to her. I mean, it was quite obvious, but I didn’t have the strength to drag the conversation down that line.
