Chapter 13 Set Fire and Burn by Ruth Nalio Angelica… Darkness surrounded me and the screaming of the wind filled my ears. The ground shook beneath my feet, cracking with each step I took. My flaming fingertips trailed along the walls of the building next to me, catching it on fire with ease. Inside, I was filled with more pain and anger than humanly possible. Terror woke me from my nightmare, and I sat up screaming. Looking down at myself, I jumped out of the bed as I realized I was on fire. “Fuck! No!” I shook my hands, as if I could shake out the fire.

CHAPTER ELEVEN – FIRE AND LIES The fire spread faster than I thought possible. Flames licked the ridge like angry fingers, cracking the earth beneath our boots. The air was thick, choking, each breath burning my lungs. Luca clung to me, eyes wide with terror, and I felt a pulse of raw fear that made my hands shake—but I forced it down. There was no room for fear. Not now. Bishop’s laughter echoed over the inferno, carried by the wind like a promise of death. He had positioned himself above us, eyes glinting with satisfaction. And the second spark plug… glowing faintly red, perched on the edge of the ridge like a ticking bomb.

When dusk fell, a girl with silver eyes and shadow-bloom braids knelt at the pit, cupped her hands, and breathed a single spark into the kindling. The fire caught instantly, a living thread drawn from the Eternal Flame itself, brought from the ruins of the old temple, carried across generations. It burned clean, not to ward off enemies, but to welcome stories. Tonight, the fire would be called the Storyfire. Tonight, it would warm not swords, but souls.

I was late morning when Tristan entered the room pulling my head of the book, I looked at him in slight amazement. “We have the conference call in twenty minutes.” He greeted stepping into the room as I looked up. “What?” He asked and I held up the book. “Tristan, this book.” I stated not really knowing how to explain it. “It’s a novel, just a story that I found in the library, but it’s based on a family of werewolves, the two daughters, twins, were born with a special gift, they could produce fire and ice.” I uttered and watched as his brows rose. “They later became joint alphas of the their pack. Do you think this could be the story of the alpha twins that we were looking for?”

Nora asked. "Yeah, what about it?" Alice asked. "When my dad got to the scene, he found the car in flames and few officers were hurt," she said. Alice was shocked. "Jesus!" She screamed. "It's terrifying," Nora sighed. She decided to change the subject. "How are the boys? Are they awake?" She asked. Alice nodded, still trying to recover from her shock. "Let's go in then," Nora said and walked into the hospital. Alice dragged her feet lazily behind her. She was still immersed in her thoughts that she wasn't focused on her surroundings. She accidentally bumped into a man.

I fought to control the car, spinning through flames and smoke, gripping the wheel with every ounce of strength. After what felt like forever, no rescue came. Only Thomas’ mocking voice, saying, “So, what now, babe? All the nearest rescue teams ran. They’re pulling the fire brigade from the city. “Even then, it’ll be at least half an hour. Might as well… keep racing? “Go for it. We’re all waiting to watch you cross the finish line.”

I took the torch, feeling its threatening heat, and began to spread the fire around the Cabin. The flames came to life, consuming the wood with insatiable voracity. My heart raced as the flames grew, becoming a fiery metaphor for my determination to eliminate any obstacle between me, Hunter, and our future child. The crackling of the flames echoed in the forest's quiet, but my mind was focused on making a decision that would change the course of things in the pack. The fire was my answer, an action rooted in the conviction that Fierce should no longer cast a shadow over our destiny.
