First Chapter Coffee House Novels & Stories

I snap out of my thoughts and turn to face Cal and nod before I look back at the building across the street from me. Cal pulls me to follow him and so I put it down to Déjà vu. following behind him, I focus on where we are going. Long forgetting about that building. I mean, this is my first time in this place. “We’re here.” I look at where he has brought me and I’m blown away. It’s a bookstore with a little coffee shop inside. The smell of freshly ground coffee makes me take a deep breath in as we enter the shop. The little bell dings and something flashes in my head of a bell dinging above a door. The surroundings melt away and in it’s place I see a counter and two women working together.

Chapter 4: Playing the Part Jake leaned against the counter of his coffee shop, his fingers drumming restlessly against the polished wood. It was early morning, yet the usual comforting aroma of freshly brewed espresso and warm pastries did little to soothe his nerves. Outside, the press was swarming like vultures, cameras flashing as soon as any movement was detected inside. A few brave customers had attempted to slip through the chaos, but most turned away, unwilling to deal with the circus outside. The sudden media attention was overwhelming, and Jake couldn’t shake the feeling that his once simple life had taken a sharp, irreversible turn.

I am already so wet just thinking about him, so wet standing next to me. I have to calm down, I have to… yet the image of his chest flits around in my head, I cannot keep a single thought straight. The first day I walked into Freddie’s Beans for the first time, the first person I noticed was him. Not the decor, or the man that greeted me at the door. It was him, shy and small, manning the drip coffee. I never liked it before, too bitter, too burnt, but that was where he preferred, and from then on, it was drip coffee.

Tom told me and pushed his chair back, getting up. "I'll join you," I pushed on my feet. Before I could move away. Duante held my hand. He tugged my hand down, telling me to sit. When Tom was out of sight, I stared at him. He slid his black coffee at me. I hated to drink it but I forced it down my throat every night before going to bed. To feel him around me. "I don't like black coffee," I said. He didn't look up at me from his laptop, "But you drink it every day,"

************** CHAPTER 13 ~Kaia’s POV~ At the mention of that phrase, it struck me. I gasped softly, the memory surfacing after years buried in the recesses of my mind. It was a rainy afternoon. A man in a suit flustered, walked into the shop, his expression tight with frustration. “You were a student at the time,” he said, his smile widening slightly as he saw my bewilderment. “Working part-time at a coffee shop near the university.”

The seat was cracked vinyl, slightly sticky under my hands. “Coffee?” the waitress asked, already reaching for a pot. “Uhm, yeah. Please.” “Someone joining you?” “Yes.” She nodded and poured without another question before she left, and I proceeded to wrap my hands around the mug. It was warm and grounding. “Okay,” I whispered to myself. “It’s gonna be fine.” I pulled out my book, opening it somewhere in the middle, without even checking the page number. Despite my attempt to focus on the words, they kept blurring.

BOOK 3: CHAPTER 41 -ELAINE- I was going through shit, and I looked like shit, too. I went to the coffee shop to get caffeine, as usual. I was about to get my coffee when Laura, the coffee shop attendant, handed it to me with a hesitant smile. “Rough night?” she asked, her voice kind but laced with pity. I gave her a tight smile. “Something like that.” She wasn’t the last to mention it. I had collected my order and was about to exit the cafe when one of the nosy townspeople ran into me on my way out.
