First Frost Novels & Stories

The Frost Beta formed an terrifying wall of protection, crossing his tree-trunk arms over his broad chest as he stared the Claw Mountain female down. Julia immediately recoiled, taking a hasty half-step back from the terrifying proximity of the Beta. But her shock quickly morphed into indignation, her face flushing an angry, bright red as her carefully laid plan was derailed. "Excuse me!" Julia shrieked, stomping her boot into the dirt and throwing a full-blown tantrum. "Are you kidding me?" She touched Reagans shoulder. "The whole Frost family is so unbelievably rude! Can't you see she was helping me? Move out of the way!"

Early December's Chill. A thin layer of snow covered the small road in front of Stefany's house. That morning, the air temperature reached minus degrees Celsius, piercing the skin, but it didn't diminish the teenage girl's enthusiasm to go to school. "The first snow of the year! Hopefully, it will be a good start as well. Especially for my friendship with Daniel," she hoped in her heart. From her bedroom window, Stefany watched the snowflakes falling slowly. Quickly, she finished preparing to go to school, wearing a thick cream-colored fur coat and her favorite blue knitted hat. She glanced at the clock on her bedroom wall. The time showed almost seven in the morning.

Rose watched as frost began forming slowly along his skin. Delicate. Intricate. Tiny crystals spiraling outward like living snowflakes. Rowan leaned closer, eyes wide. “No way.” Kael exhaled softly. The frost spread outward, crawling along a nearby rock. Within seconds the surface turned white with ice. Ember crouched down, poking it. “Okay that’s extremely cool.” Rowan groaned. “You said cool.” “I regret nothing.” Rose crossed her arms but couldn’t hide the small smile pulling at her lips.

As I watched, it traced a slow, deliberate spiral on the pane, spelling out one word in letters of frost. Thank you. Elara saw it too. She smiled and pressed her cheek against my shoulder. “You’re welcome,” she whispered. Outside, the first real snow of the season began to fall.

The morning air carried a sharp, bitter edge that nipped at the skin and turned every breath into thick white steam. Winter had arrived early in the valley, coming down from the northern peaks overnight without a cloud in the sky to buffer the freeze. A thin layer of white frost covered the roof of the barn, sparkling like crushed glass under the pale morning sun.

The first hard freeze of the season arrived on Thursday morning, painting the slate roof of the clinic in a crisp coat of silver frost. By six o'clock, the biting wind swept through West End Avenue, rattling the heavy glass panes and scattering pale blue mist over the empty street. Upstairs in the third-floor apartment, the morning warmth centered around the brick hearth.

The first golden rays of autumn dawn spilled over the jagged snowpeaks of the Frozen Spine, turning the heavy mist in the valley below into a sea of shimmering amber. Inside the master suite of the Frostwell estate, the morning air was crisp with the scent of pine and lingering frost, but beneath the heavy velvet comforter, the warmth was absolute.

Ernest said. "One day is one day," Thomas said. He went back to what he was doing. Ernest stood at the snowdrops for a moment. He looked at them in the February morning light. Small, white, exactly themselves. The first thing that appeared every year in the garden's sequence, the signal that the turning had begun even when the air was still clearly winter. He thought about the fifth year beginning.

Frost flowers began forming on the windshield—visible to the naked eye. [Region Announcement: Attention, all players in Zone C-996—Cold Front Incoming!] [Current ambient temperature has dropped to 14°F and will continue falling.] [Warning: Low temperatures cause body heat loss, slowed reflexes, and a minor decrease in Sanity.] [Survivors, seek heat sources or warm shelter immediately!] 'Damn, can't catch a break with this game!' Jake rubbed his stiffening fingers and pressed on the blinking red [Regional Chat] button. Even someone with his iron nerves felt his pupils contract at what he saw.

In her past life, the first major freeze didn’t hit until December 20th. The timeline was shifting. The apocalypse was accelerating. She swallowed her noodles, her eyes narrowing as she looked out the thick, bulletproof glass at the city skyline. The wind was already picking up, howling against the reinforced panes. The White Christmas wasn't just coming. It was rushing to meet them.
