The stream was fringed with wildflowers of every hue, from delicate lavender to brilliant scarlet, and a profusion of butterflies and bees flitted among them, sipping nectar and pollinating with abandon. On the other side of the clearing rose a steep incline of jagged rocks and boulders, which seemed to have been thrust up from the earth by some unseen force, creating a natural fortress around the oasis. The rocks were slick with moss and lichen, and a small waterfall tumbled down the face of one of them, adding to the ambient music of the stream.
