“I asked why you would read these kind of books for Amelia” I looked at the book in his hand, a book of myths and legends. I sighed what else could go wrong. “I shouldn't read that” “Why don't you read real books…” “She's a child” “Does that matter?” “We've been arguing a little too much lately” “Read her something better” “Dare me” Dare me??

“How is that when I’m a girl?” Dell chuckles a little. “That was what me and your father also thought when you came out a girl. Your father is convinced that I hallucinated the whole thing.” Dell quiets down as he looks at his precious daughter. Still so awed by her and how she is so soft but has the core of steal inside of her. Out of both his daughters she is the one that is most like him. “You are special my daughter.” He says finally letting go of her hand to lift her chin up. “I never knew how special until this book came into my possession.” Dell lays his hand once again on the big leather book.

"Of course she said yes. What else was she going to say when her daughter who didn't read much asked if she should read her favorite book?" I laughed softly and ran my hand over her back. Then she lifted her head so that she could look into my eyes again. "I just wanted to be able to talk to you about that book," she said, shaking her head and smiling ruefully. "But it took me almost four months to get through it. There was so much I didn't understand at that age. It was embarrassing for my mother when I asked about some of it. It was her favorite book, but it didn't occur to her until I started asking some of those questions that it might not be the most appropriate reading material for a f

"Ma'am, that young man is banned from the property. Your daughter gave me a direct order. She told me to make sure no calls or messages from him reached you. She said it was for the family's peace." The words hit me like a slap. So, he had tried. He did care. But my own daughter, my scandal, had built a wall between us. A hot, sudden anger flashed through me. "So, Leo really does care, but my scandal of a daughter is behind all this," I whispered to myself. I ended the conversation there, promising to deal with it after the event. But the anger stayed, a low burn under my skin.

Faced with Andrew's expectant gaze, she couldn't bring herself to outright refuse. But in reality, she and Lorneauxs were like oil and water. Every interaction left her with a bad impression of him. Besides bullying and exploiting her, that jerk had never treated Claire well. She dared not attempt to offer counsel to such an intimidating person. "Uncle, Mom, I'm heading to class now," Claire announced, fearing that staying longer might lead to another mistake. "Study well," Margaret reminded her daughter. "I will. Goodbye!" With Andrew's approval, Claire maintained her composure and briskly left the dining room.

The books inside the box spilled out. At the top of the spilled books was a painting by my daughter, one that had won an award, now marred by a clear, muddy shoe print. "Can't leave anything behind. Our school believes in finishing what you started," she said, her mouth twisted with heavy mockery. "Furthermore, we wanted to 'communicate' with you in person." She casually adjusted her scarf. "We're sorry your daughter has been expelled, but you need to reflect on yourself for faking injuries and threatening the school. Now you've even lost your job… People like you who break the rules will be outcasts everywhere."

Her father shook his head while patting her head, “Not today. I wanted to spend some time with you. I feel bad for spending all my time at work. You won’t be mad at dad for choosing to spend time with you this morning, right?” Yuna smiled sincerely, “No, I don’t mind.” Her father looked at the cover of her book to find that she was reading about the Country of Ezra. He was shocked by the level of the book she was reading. This book was written for literary scholars that were in their 20s. She was just barely 12 years old. He couldn’t help but feel proud of his smart daughter.

The tall shelves were spotless yet empty and the only books that graced the smooth ebony were the ones that my daughter had given Enora when she got back from the trip. There was a bookstore I knew in New York. I would give them and ring and place a few orders. As I waited for Enora, my fingers relished the feel of her cool and soft body through the towel.
