Evie didn’t say anything. She just walked towards me and stopped an arm’s length away.
“I don’t forgive you.”
I nodded. “I know.”
“But now I believe you’re truly sorry.” She looked into my eyes, and a faint smile appeared on her face. “That’s a better place to start than pretending the past never happened.”
