“Going somewhere?” the lycan king asked, emerging from the trees. His voice was smooth but laced with an underlying tension. His gaze locked onto me, and a mix of fear and exhilaration sparked within me. His face was now covered but his glowing eyes were visible. "How... how did you find me?" I stammered, attempting to compose myself. He narrowed his gaze at me and stated, "I'm the lycan king.” That's it! As if that explains everything. Wait, well it kind of does; a lycan king is the most powerful werewolf.

The peace of the inner sanctum was a fragile illusion, shattered by the heavy tread of combat boots on the hardwood floors outside our bedroom. He looked so much like Lucien it made my skin crawl. “So he’s of French stock, too?” I asked, trying to keep my voice casual while admiring the picture. “Is that all you have to say?” Vivienne asked, her tone dripping with disappointment. “What did you want me to say?” I shot back. “I don't know—show that you're impressed! I just found out that the entity inside of you slept with the Lycan King himself. I cracked the code, Seraphina!” She threw her hands up in the air as if she had just won a marathon.

I regarded him coldly. “Who the hell are you?" He cocked his head, obviously amused by ‘whatever I couldn't place my fingers on.’ “I'm Luciano, the Lycan king of Moon pack, and your fated mate!" I had barely processed his words when his arms possessively wrapped around my waist as he lowered his lips to mine. “If you want to be kissed so badly, I should be the right person for that,” he said and before I could reply, he took my lips in a hungry but painful kiss.

He asked casually, ignoring the man's jab. "Because she knows him!" Milan seemed to think on it, looking at his nails to flick off an insect that just perched there. "Well, as the Lycan King of this Kingdom, I beg to differ. I can't l_" "What!" They all screamed. "You are the Lycan King?" The scrawny man surged forward, then his eyes grew in their sockets as he pointed deadly at Milan turned to his followers, and shouted. "He is the man we seek. Get him!"

His claw was the size of Savannah's head as he punched it through her chest, ripping her heart out the other side and sending the pack into a flurry of sobs and terrified mumblings for mercy. "You will do well to teach your pack to respect those above them." The witch's voice called out again, but I was trapped staring at Savannah's body as the king pulled his hand out, and it fell to the ground. I was aware of him walking back to me, but I couldn't take my eyes away. It was the large hand that grabbed me by my backpack and lifted me off the ground like a doll that brought me back to reality, and I instinctively met the glowing red eyes of the Lycan King.

"Will be disposed of." The room fell silent at that. I swallowed hard. "He'll choose all of us," one of the other girls said finally, defiant. "Why send so many of us otherwise?" The blonde girl looked away, shaking her head. "You don't understand. This is the Lycan King we're talking about. He's a beast, an animal. He only wants what he can use, and he doesn't want to use any of us for long." I shivered, feeling a chill that had nothing to do with the cold.
