He waved her off. Still the woman lingered. She stood her ground, proud in her stance. “I’m sure your pathetic ranks couldn’t stand against my clan. None of you could.” Donte was in her face. He could feel the heat of her trembling breaths. “Chimeras that flaunt their abilities are no more abominations than the ones that shun immortals with greater power.” The ruby red of his eyes flickered with such darkness. “We prefer to avoid war. We welcome outcasts with open arms, and give sanctuary to the injured. You are neither, nor are you fit enough to be our mate. Leave." His nostrils flared as he menaced over her.

I wait til I hear feel the cold air drifting into the kitchen and the soft sound of a door closing before glancing into the hallway again. Through the doors glass I could see Embers back to me. The left side of her body was eliminated white from the moon and her hair looked like silver threads as they hung down her back. Creeping towards the door she shifts and a second later a see a silvery gold wolf dashing across the snow, her body low as she ran.

She gritted her teeth, exerted tremendous force to lift the upper half of my body, and dragged me out of the laboratory step by step. The scorching air roasted our skin. Even a handful of Serena's hair had been seared, the end of those burnt strands glowing faintly. Despite that, Serena didn't seem to be in pain while dragging me ahead. Conflicted emotions stirred in my chest as I peered at her side profile, which had been stained with ash. I struggled to raise my hand and look at my watch. There wasn't much time left. We would die here if we didn't leave now.

The winds shifted, carrying her words into the night, all the way to Ember Hollow, where Isabella stirred in her sleep, her dreams thick with whispers and fire. ----- A crimson sun loomed over Ember Hollow, casting a blood-red hue across the charred lands below. The air was thick with tension, a silence so loud it buzzed in the ears of those who dared walk the crumbling paths of the realm. In the distance, the spires of the ancient Council Fortress pierced the sky like obsidian daggers, a silent reminder of the power still held by those who sat in the shadows.

I felt the corner of my lips tug up as I saw her name. Ember: How is it you always seem to know when something's wrong? She gave me an inquisitive emoji beside it. Me: I have my ways. Tell me what's going on. I want to help with whatever it is. Ember: It broke… I'm certain Ash's barrier broke. I don't know how to help him. I've spent most of my evening in the library in my kingdom. I haven't found anything to extract dark magic. I thought of doing what my mom did and sucking the magic from him. If I did that though he wouldn't have any magic and I would be the one consumed by the darkness.

Saavi had put her full body weight on Dhruv who held her like he was protecting her. "Dhruv," Saavi called him running her index finger on his bicep. "Yes, love." "Why do you call me Ember To My Flame?" she asked remembering when she was about to commit suicide Dhruv stopped her and confessed Saavi was The Ember to his Flame. "Interesting Question, love." Dhruv smiled before asking, "Do you know what Ember is?" Saavi raised her head from his chest and nodded vigorously. She answered her husband as she said, "Yes, a piece of wood or coal that is not burning, but is still red and hot after a fire has died."

My fingers uncurled from the dirt, and the pain vanished—replaced by a power so fierce, so pure, it felt like starlight coursing through my veins. “Finally,” Ember’s voice rumbled from my throat, but it wasn’t my voice. It was deeper, firmer, carrying a thousand echoes of lives long gone. “You’ve caused enough destruction, Kael.” Kael’s eyes widened as the air shifted. “No…” he whispered, stumbling back. “That’s not possible—” “Oh, it’s very possible.” Ember smiled through me, and even I could feel how cold it was. “You forget, boy… I am not merely inside her. I am her.”

The wind which blew across the middle eastern desert slapped sand particles painfully against the skin and blew ferociously hot, but somewhere in the vast Arabian desert not far from the city, in the tent of Omar bin Khalid bin Aaban, the wind outside was like a cool winter breeze compared to the tension that stretched thin within and fanned a burning heat which was slowly developing. He stood tall a little distance away from his father who sat on a soft cushioned pillow, legs crossed and eyes closed, anger evident on his old wrinkled face. Omar was being impossible.

Before I can process this, the flames become bigger, swallowing the furniture in the room. I make a run for the door. Just as I was about a step away, a cupboard fell down, blocking the door. A scream leaves my lips as I instinctively jump back in fright. Hugging Ian close to my chest, I shout out the first name that was on the tip of my tongue. “DRAX !” I step back when the flames threaten to engulf me. I look around, hoping to find anything but almost everything is on fire. Just as I thought I had lost any hope, Zion's voice fills my ears.
