You're making this difficult for me, and honestly, I'm tired of the bullshit. I already told you it was a mistake! What else do you want? It's a freaking mistake. Mom orders a Lobster Tagliatelle, and I order the Beef Wellington. Small talk goes smoothly between all of us, from asking Garrett what it is he does, and he explains he attends Boston University, studying Business, has a part-time job at the local IHOP, and in his spare time he is a motocross rider and is one of the best young riders in the country. Mom asks him more questions about his studies and about motocross, whilst Dad sits there in silence, reading Garrett like he is a spreadsheet full of numbers. I ignored his comment and signed the last paper.

He looks small in comparison with the giant piece of polished Italian wood in front of him and huge windows that stand behind him. As Garrett picks up the phone on his desk, I finally take the chance to let his words travel through my mind completely. Without my espresso entirely in the way. First and foremost, Garrett is retiring. Not only is he retiring, but I'm the only one who knows he is retiring, based on his technical enforcement upon me to vow secrecy of the heart wrenching announcement until Monday.
