I had anticipated a reply but got none; all I received was a creepy smile as she walked in my direction.
“You are supposed to be dead,” I croaked, stepping backward. I stumbled until my back touched the wall. Elena reached out, her fingers running across my cheeks. My breaths came in short, haggard gasps.
She leaned closer to me, making me flinch.
“Help,” I tried to shout, but the words wouldn't come easily.
I shut my eyes, ready for the worst to happen as tears rushed from my eyes. I could hear the knocking on my door, and I opened my eyes to see that she was gone and the lights were flickered on, the candles off.
