Сюжет романа развивается в сторону трифоновской прозы, и уже не ждёшь ничего иного, а тебя перекидывают на поле прозы чеховской, затем, когда уж точно больше ничего другого не хочешь, помещают в брауновскую прозу, ещё и замешенную на местном материале. Соответственно этим сюжетным и жанровым трансформациям меняется главный герой романа Mediatores. Владимир Фёдоров осмысляет недавно прожитое, а это прожитое представляет собой поиск им вечной женственности. Главный герой ищет свою любовь, следуя за голосом собственной интуиции внутри своей головы, вглядываясь в “посредничающее”, “медиаторствующее” зеркало бёмевской Авроры, отражающей его самого, высшего, лучшего, и его бессмертную возлюбленную — в той девушке, которую он в конечном итоге найдёт. Многочисленные женские персонажи этого романа входят в жизнь героя и уходят из неё как неточные отражения, как отражения чьей-то другой Авроры. Но всё-таки Mediatores больше, чем любовный роман. Как больше он и псевдоисторического романа, и детективного, и медицинского, и какого угодно другого. Он про то, как вечно женственное по-дантовски исцеляет героя, который в какой-то момент болезненно, вплоть до мнимой душевной болезни осознал собственную бесцельность и нецельность.
