My energy was draining fast, my body craving food, my mind clouding with doubt. I stumbled to a clearing when the earth beneath me rumbled. The ground cracked. Then came the Black Goblins—dozens at first, then hundreds, their black, ashy skin glowing faintly under the pale light. They hated sorcerers, always had. Unlike the White Goblins, these creatures were pure hostility. They formed a ring around me, baring teeth, hissing threats. One stepped forward—taller than the others, a crooked crown on his head. His voice slithered through the air like poison.

As she sprinted to follow them in, Jo tried to see through the layer of stone so that she’d have a sense of what they were facing, but running at full speed did not make it easy to focus, and all she could see were the same empty halls she’d seen earlier that day. She arrived at the entryway only a second before Zane. “Let me go first,” he said to her aloud. She nodded, knowing that was the best bet since he was a Guardian. He crouched down and slid his tall body through the opening, disappearing a second later. Jo held her breath, not waiting for him to tell her what lay on the other side, and plunged ahead.

I've been at it for so long, and now I'm just tired. The Goblin shrieks in a loud, high-pitched scream making my ears bleed. Its hand rises high, ready to squash me into a puddle of blood. I close my eyes, prepared for whatever lies ahead. Does this mean I give up? Why does that sound worse? A large shadow jumps over me, and I know it's Fenrir. He throws the ogre into Eldora and clamps his jaw around the Goblin entire face. Fenrir snaps his face in all directions. The sickening sounds of all its bones breaking disturbs the silence hanging over us.

The goblin speech was like listening to birds and lizards all at once, saturated with high tones and heavy on the ears. Shieena spoke and the goblin listened. Then he slapped her. His hand flew through the air and slapped her with considerable force. Nio reacted instinctively and by focusing his magic pushed the goblin away. More goblins appeared on the barricades of the settlement. Those goblins weren't archers. They were dressed in simple tunics and were preparing to use magic. Nio reached for the elements and black mist appeared around him. The goblins behind him backed away. Even his friends took a few steps back. Well, at least I finally got something I can do as a mage, right? Water splintered like glistening crystals as I turned and followed the rhythm with precision. I closed my eyes as I continued on my track, there was another smooth splash. Once again, I turned and leaped a little, then faced the audience and opened my eyes. I thought I'd see my expectants watching me in awe. But to my surprise, my line of vision was directed to a pair of unfamiliar pitch black eyes, the darkest shade of black I've ever seen in my whole life.

Finally reaching the castle, the slaves and Natalia were surprised by the abundant amount of Orcs that there was going around, and also of other strange and terrifying monsters, such as the giant rock colossus, the scarecrows, living armors, and the ghosts, who were screaming in surprise, although this was their way of communicating.
