The air—or whatever passed for air here—buzzed with impossible energy, vibrating in rhythm with the artefact’s pulsing shards.
“You shouldn’t be here,” the god’s voice thundered, resonating in every corner of Riven’s mind. “Mortal, boy, and wretch… You trespass in a domain older than your world. You seek to bend what cannot be bent.”
Riven squared his shoulders. “I don’t seek to bend anything. I seek to stop the destruction you’re about to unleash.”
The god’s laughter was a rolling, low rumble, shaking the very void. “Stop? Mortal… You do not understand. You cannot stop what is. You can only endure or be unmade.”
