God's Gift For Us Novels & Stories

Now that I've got this other me in my head, I see things much clearer. My father was always telling me not to be afraid of my gift of sight, he said I was blessed by the Gods. I’ve always known the best time to plant crops. Which fields needed rotation and when our borders needed protecting. But now, it's as if my gifts have been amplified. Along with other gifts I didn't even know I had.

She turned to page six. She wrote: What I know about the gift is also, in some ways, what I know about people. The gift does not distinguish between the two. It reaches toward what is real, what is present, what is genuine. It cannot be fooled by performance or impression management. It goes directly to what is actually there — the injury, the block, the life force underneath the interference. This makes it both the most honest thing I carry and the most vulnerable. Because what is actually there is also what is actually mine. The gift sees it and responds to it and does not pretend otherwise.

15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. 16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created.” As Fr. Charles finished the verses, he took in some breathe then looked at the congregation and voiced out.

The night Helen Kerr's first love proposes, I stand on the 33rd-floor terrace, holding my terminal stomach cancer diagnosis. Through the glass, I watch the man drop to one knee. They exchange rings, and she slides the ring meant for me onto his finger. I stay hidden outside in the excruciating pain, refusing to ruin their moment. Then Helen spots me. There is no panic or guilt, just pure disgust in her eyes. She sneers, gestures toward the ledge, and mouths through the window, "Jump, if you're gonna jump. Stop acting just to ruin my night. If you actually die, maybe I'll believe you." Right then, the last flicker of life in me goes dark. I look at the woman I've loved for a decade and

Kali is going to change the lives of wolves as we know it. She heard my prayer. She has answered my prayer. 'Thank you goddess, you have given me the greatest blessing and gave our packs the brightest future possible.' "So you're saying Goddess has gifted her with sight?" As Doc went to open his mouth Kali intervenes, "She gave me three gifts. I thought it was a dream. It still feels like one. It was so beautiful and unworldly. Something you'd see in the movies. I don't remember it all, I rember the gifts. She said the gift of sight, the power to heal and the power to love with more heart than anyone before me. She said there's hardships ahead...." She pauses for a second trying to remember

“No, Jrue, we're not going to talk about it anymore. I don't want to see those heretics deceive my son. Gifts are a curse placed on the earth by Arni, the Elder Brother god. They are a means of vengeance. “Don't you see the deaths they caused, the schisms they triggered in the human race, and then the visitor glorifies them and tries to teach our children sorcery?” his mother exclaimed. “but, mother... please. This is a one-time request from me. Many of the children have also been brought to the registration office. Jrue, on the verge of tears, pled, "This is the only thing I'm asking of you."

I blinked. “How is this a talk?! Who is it… I’ll have a talk with him!” Theodore laughed. “By the way… I am to ask you… Why have you not used your gift from God yet?” I blinked. Gift? What gift? I sat back on my legs… I had to think for a long time… Theodore had gotten up, and gave the kids their clothes, while I sat there thinking. I had no clue what he was talking about.

asked the older man. “It was interesting. The subject you teach is also interesting. I never thought that there would be these many supernatural creatures on earth itself,” said Aithusa and the man looked up and said,” You might look young but you have an old soul. Don’t you? And that is the reason that you are here.” “And you are?” asked Aithusa shocked that he would be able to see her so easily. “I am Gifted. I can feel and see things that others cannot. And you are here because you have trouble. And you have come seeking help from me,” said the man and Aithusa could do nothing else except nod.

He listened carefully as I described the session, the craving on the walk home, the discomfort of recognizing it for what it actually was. "I don't think that's a flaw," he said, when I finished. "I think it might be one of the most honest things you've found yet, in this whole season. The gift has always offered you a way out of uncertainty. Of course some part of you misses that, now that you've chosen to live without it. That's not weakness. That's just an accurate accounting of what the gift actually provided, beneath all the talk of service and usefulness."

When I was six years old, I came down with a terrible fever. Doris carried me through a blizzard and begged a clinic doctor to treat me. She spent her entire life pinching pennies, setting aside every dollar for my future wedding. "Mark, ghosts are easier to deal with than people. A ghost just wants your life, but people will strip you to the bone." She used to say it while sipping her tea. ‘Doris, you were wrong. ‘In this world, people are far more poisonous than ghosts.’
