December 7th I step into the house, leaving my jacket and shoes at the entrance. I greet James and head toward the kitchen, hiding my purchase behind my back. "Guess what I bought?" James is leaning against the counter, holding a cup of coffee in his hands. "Tell me it’s not another Christmas decoration," he pleads. "Nope, better," I say, sitting at the table. "I bought a house." He chokes on his drink. "You bought what?"

I hung up the phone without a second thought. It was a great day for moving. I was not about to let a bunch of nasty people ruin my mood. I focused on making the place feel like home: setting up the bed, cleaning every corner, decorating the living room. By the time I was done arranging everything, the sky had already turned dark. I collapsed onto the big bed in my bedroom. My mind was filled with nothing but dreams of the happy life ahead. A few days later, I came home from work. When I opened the door, I was greeted by the sight of my parents sitting in the living room with Brad’s family. They were casually snacking on peanuts, chatting, and laughing like they owned the place.

Now I knew he'd been bleeding me dry for Riley Anderson, his childhood sweetheart. "I want to refinance the house, too," he added. I stopped what I was doing, my hands frozen in the sink, and turned to stare straight at him. "You really want your four three-year-old sons to end up homeless?" This house wasn't much, just a small three-bedroom, but it was ours—the one we'd fought for, saved for, and sacrificed for. The mortgage wasn't even close to being paid off. His name was on the deed because when we first bought it, I had been out of town on business. He'd told me it would be easier that way, with him making the payments.

HAZEL'S POV Gabz eyes opened wide. "Wow! Mrs. C! That's awesome! Do you guys want to adopt me?" Gabz smacked her lips. Aunty laughed. "No Gabrielle, we're already raising one delinquent. We don't need another." Gabz made a funny, pouty face. Aunty cleared her throat and took my hand in hers. "No sweetheart. We did not buy you a house. It's a gift from your mother."

George chuckled. As usual, the ride home was filled with traffic. It was weird calling the penthouse home since I’d never been in it after it was renovated, but it was my new home for the next few years; until we had to move into a bigger house. After a long while, the driver pulled over at the apartment complex George had bought off for no good reason. We got out and he retrieved our luggage from the trunk of the car.

I was a receptionist. The grass was overtaking the cement walkway up to the house. You could barely see the steps that led up to the front of the house due to all the bushes being overgrown. I took a deep breath and began to walk towards the home that I had just bought at the Memphis auction. It has always been a dream of mine to live in an old Victorian home. Of course, the homes that were already renovated were completely out of my budget.

"Her details. Hostel number. Do you have one?" Brianne smiled. "Sure, I'll give them to you." "I need a house. Of my own." "I've made preparations for that already. The key and address are in your email. I sent them last night. It's a computerized passcode to open the house. It works with a robot and only your fingerprint can open it."He said. "And mine anyway." "Okay. That's good"Henry smiled. "I will not defile you. Just keep to your promise."

“Sorry again.” Trina rolled her eyes, smoothing out her rumpled shirt. “You’re fine. How are you? You holdin’ up?” Laura nodded, her fingers still laced with mine. “Yeah, I’m good. Better than good, actually… Talon bought us a house. Out by the old mill.” For a second, the room was silent except for the faint hum of the movie still playing in the background. Jake raised an eyebrow while Trina’s grin widened like she’d just won the lottery.

"Do you own a house?" "Yes." "Inheritance?" "No." "Loan?" Gideon burst out laughing. "I owe nothing, Jewel." She smirked. One of his arms was propped up against the window sill, the other on the steering wheel. He had a small smile on his lips and looked at her from time to time to make sure she was okay. "So you have a job?" she asked again, her gaze shifting away from Gideon. He gave a nod. "I bought that house while I was still a Corporal Scout Ranger."

“Then why did you do what you did?” “I told you.” He smiled. “Is that your car over there?” George asked, tipping his head. “Beautiful.” “Yeah.” He threw the key at George. “Just park at the entrance. Homer and OB will be here shortly.” “All right, sir.” “Let’s go inside.” The security guard opened the gate. Once we were inside, I was awed at how big the house was. The lawn was spectacular. Moses’s and his mother’s residences were bigger, but this three-story house was also huge and modern, expanding wide at the center of the property.
