When I reached out to Marissa, she happened to be in need of money. I transferred double the amount she requested and said, "Keep the extra to use as needed. I'm hiring you to create a graphic novel for me. Do a good job of it." I sent her the plot that I stayed up all night crafting. Once she read the story outline, she texted me, "This is incredible! You're a genius! Why don't you consider turning it into a traditional novel instead?"

“Maybe not today?” - And when? - Joyfully clapped her friend, almost bouncing on the spot. A street graffiti artist recently appeared in our city and his work was very different from all the drawings that I saw. There were no heaps of incomprehensible letters and bright colors in them, besides, there was an impression that they seemed to be painted not with spray paint, but with watercolors. All the colors in his drawings were matched to the perfect palette, creating an extraordinary and lively picture. Naturally, no one has seen him yet, since he painted in splendid isolation.

Sure, he's abrasive, but I don't think he's that bad. I look at the blank canvas before me. Paints at the ready. I look around my little corner at the beautiful landscapes, the portraits of random people. These pictures are the expressions of my heart. I find comfort in them. My eyes scan the portraits one by one, trying to find inspiration, when my eye travels to a corner I rarely venture to look at.

Other works included metal sculptures, canvases covered in glass and beads and ribbons, and more traditional paintings of people that were haunting in their colors and overall composition. Thea hadn’t entered in paintings, and now she wished she had. She hadn’t entered at all, actually. After she’d sent out a number of query letters to agents for her graphic novel, she hadn’t heard anything for weeks. Assuming rejection, she’d been about to send out a second round of letters to other agents when she’d gotten the email from an agent in New York.
