Grover Monster Novels & Stories

Nicky had done far worse than just bite me. I looked up and coldly stared at her. "You people are really made for each other." "What's that supposed to mean?" she snapped. "You know what it means," I said, standing up to jab my finger in her shoulder. "You're a monster who beat up my wife so badly that she was critically wounded." Then, I whipped my shaking finger around to point at Nicky. "And as for you, you're a little monster who flushed my wife's ashes down the toilet!"

I looked at Sienna. She looked terrified. I looked back at Raven. "You didn't?" Raven hesitated. Just slightly. Enough. I stepped closer. "You know what your problem is?" Raven stayed quiet. "You think monsters look a certain way." The room was silent. I could hear Sienna breathing. I looked directly into Raven's eyes. "You want me to be angry." Raven's hand tightened around her phone. "You want me to confess." I smiled. "But you don't understand something."

Alex moved away from the monster, "I do, but without Kent, I can't do it." "So much for a planner! Do you have something else?!" Gloyd exclaimed. Without a plan, this battle would not be winnable. Gloyd tried to attack the back of the monster when he suddenly slipped from the wet grass below his feet. "Oh N--." He muttered. Gloyd saw the turtle monster faced him where it swung its weapon in the air, trying to give Gloyd a direct hit from above.

“How are you getting something to eat?” “I broke into the candy machine, and the drinking fountain has water.” “Does the monster know you’re in here?” “I dunno, it never comes here.” “Where does it go?” “Sometimes it slides on the street. Sometimes it crawls in the grass.” “What does the monster do?” “It slides and eats stuff. It ate a squirrel. The squirrel tried to get away, but the monster crawled over it, and it was gone.” “Have you been anywhere else downtown?” “I wanted to go to the grocery store, but I’m too afraid. The monster will get me.”

As we walked, Tommy explained the game to me. “It's called MonsterGo,” he said, pulling out his cell phone. “You open up the app and then monsters pop up on your screen. They can show up anywhere, so you have to run all over town to find them.” Tommy snatched my phone out of my hand and quickly downloaded the game for me. “There, now you can play too,” he said. I shrugged, seeing the game as the perfect opportunity to distract myself from the misery that was job hunting. We ran around the park for a bit and it wasn't long before I caught my first monster. It was called a “Stingly.”

“You don’t know that.” “You are the one who does not know, Missus. You have not lived this life long enough to know." Glover glanced at the door. He was clearly worried. "You need to go to him. When he gets like this…that’s when the other one comes out.” Monster. When Troy was like this, that's when the monster came out. that was what Glover really wanted to say. Glover was right. Last time, I could coax our Troy back from that pit of despair. And it wasn’t as if we could lock Troy away this time – his cell was currently occupied.

I heard her tell Cory that her daddy was the one making the speech, so I just let her be while Roman squeezed my hand under the table. “I am thankful for every one of you who showed up here to celebrate with me. I especially want to thank all the investors who helped to make this branch a reality, the employees, and my family. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all of you,” Levi said. Even his smile was fake. I couldn’t believe that I fell in love with this cruel man three years ago.

That goddamn voice. Marcus. A ghost from a life he thought he buried. “What do you want from me, you piece of shit?” Carlo growled, fury creeping into every word. Marcus let out another laugh. This one was darker. “What do I want?” he said, voice turning hard and bitter. “You and your men set me up. You left me to rot like trash. I lost everything, Carlo. Everything. My freedom. My crew. My name. And now, I’m going to take everything from you.”

I held on to the wall and weakly stepped around it, but the pile moved. It uncurled. Then got up. Then stretched, very much like a cat would. Then it opened its eyes, which happened to be very beautiful, very pale, very yellow. Because it wasn’t a pile at all. It was a wolf. Curled outside my door. Guarding it. A huge black wolf. A fucking gigantic black wolf. “Leo?” My voice was unused and rusty. I may have been out more than just one day. “Is that you?” The wolf blinked at me, still enjoying his stretch. I blinked back, hopefully stumbling on the Morse code for pls pls pls don’t eat me.

Not until he’d taken everything from her—the way she took it from them. He stood, buttoning his shirt, the reflection in the window showing a man who looked nothing like the one Zara used to love. That man was gone. What stood here now was something else entirely. A monster reborn. Outside, thunder cracked across the sky the sound of a promise breaking.
