Honestly, they barely match at all beyond the first handful of episodes. The adaptation is notoriously loose. They even brought in a new regular character, the journalist, who has no direct counterpart in the early novels. Plot points from 'Death of a Gossip' are in there, and you'll see shades of 'Death of a Cad' later on, but it's all scrambled. The TV series has a darker, more melancholic edge compared to the books' lighter, quirkier tone. It's a good show, but it's its own beast.
