He murmured softly, taking the seat across from her but unable to stop looking at her for more than a few seconds. Candles flickered between them, the warm lights reflecting in Hazel’s eyes while the cool night breeze played with a few loose strands of her hair. Alan poured juice into her glass before leaning back in his chair with a faint smile. “You know…” He tapped his fingers lightly against the table. “I had this entire speech planned for tonight.” Hazel raised an eyebrow immediately. “Oh really?” “Yeah.” He chuckled under his breath. “It was supposed to be smooth and romantic and very impressive.”

I stared blankly at him, waiting for him to finish processing his emotions. “Ah, yes. Sorry to keep you waiting. Let me take you to the pack house,” he said, pointing the way in front of me. The pack house was very lively for midnight, almost all the bedroom lights turned on as everyone gathered to witness the drama. Jacob walked into her room late that night, the blanket had rolled over from her, and was covering only her legs.
